Reservation-Quota
Long time ago or rather not so long time ago, when I was a student. And when I say student I don’t mean ISMU days primarily because I did not do any act from which any one can envisage me as a student expect that I had an erstwhile ISMU I-Card and I used to sit for exams in the Penman Auditorium,
Cutting the crap and coming back to the student thing, when I was in XI and XII. Preparing for JEE or I will put it as “Engineering Entrance Examinations” to be humble and to have reverence for the lesser mortals.
Cutting the crap yet again and coming back to the student thing. With two digit Premier Colleges and Four digit seats, any news about reservation or quota generated a furor among us. With any alteration in the nos. (% reserved) or rather increase in the nos. it was mathematics time for most of us. Calculate or Back-calculate, Take your pick, the no. of seats available for you.
I personally use to curse the order, more so because my sister was preparing for medicals and no. of seats are woefully less. “Why is Reservation there even after 50+ years of independence?” “Why don’t open a separate college for them and spare us?” In short I was never comfortable with the noble idea of reservations.
There also came a hilarious Women Reservation Bill, (I guess basically for Assembly and Lok Sabha etc) in the backdrop of Women-Men equality notions. LoL. Hello, did I say equality, but I hear “reservation” as the Echo. Thankfully it’s not passed it, (not so astonishingly) not for Reservation free Legislature but for other complex vote-cast combination. I used to keep an eye especially on this bill, because it can hamper my all time fantasy. Politics to mere khoon mein hai. India can do with some more good looking Netas. What say?
Coming out of my student days. I hardly care about Reservations/Quotas any more. Even though much of the mathematics changed in this time period ,when Arjun Bhai( I call him Bhai for other obvious reasons, which can be a anti-climax ) burst into scene in 2004 or rather wheel chaired into the scene. I don’t know the reason. May be it doesn’t affects it any more. May be I was lucky enough; it did not affect me anytime? May be being in Oil and Gas you have other things to worry for? May be being in a US MNC, it’s not my concern any more.
Or it is the sense, that I can’t change it in any ways (At this point of time). Or it is the sense that we don’t cast our vote we vote our cast. Or it is the same with everybody because I haven’t had any brain-storming sessions on this topic for a long long time.
OR I am more confident now.
OR I am selfish.
I don’t know. But it should bother me as it did before. I am still waiting for a PM who can be confident enough brushing aside the vote-bank algebra. And who, from the ramparts of the Red Fort can explain why India’s tryst with Schedules and Quoatas has been so disappointing.

you are not the only one waiting for that PM We all are.
But it does seem that we will have to wait a liitle long.No one seems to have the guts to do what is need ful
But you have rightly pointed out that we have stopped caring about these things since it doent bother us anymore ,which makes us equally responsible for this sad state of affairs. It is a democracy after all
